Cooperation
WHAT IS COOPERATIVISM?
Cooperativism is a movement that emerged at the end of the 19th century and is defined as the association of people who unite voluntarily to satisfy their economic, social and cultural needs and aspirations in common, through an organization that is collectively owned and democratically managed.

FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES
The seven principles that govern the operation of a cooperative are:
Open and voluntary membership
Cooperatives are voluntary organizations, open to all those willing to use their services and willing to accept the responsibilities that come with membership, without discrimination of gender, race, social class, political or religious position.
Democratic management
Cooperatives are democratic organizations controlled by their members, who actively participate in defining policies and making decisions. In cooperatives, everyone has the same voting rights (one person, one vote).
Financial participation of members
The people associated to the cooperatives contribute in an equitable way and control in a democratic way the capital of this company. As Kairós is a non-profit social initiative cooperative, its members do not receive compensation on the subscribed capital as a condition of membership. The members of the cooperative allocate surpluses for the following purposes: the development of the cooperative, through the possible creation of reserves, of which at least a part must be indivisible; and the support of other activities, as approved by the majority.
Autonomy and independence
Cooperatives are autonomous mutual aid organizations controlled by their members. If they enter into agreements with other organizations or public administrations, or have capital from external sources, they do so on terms that ensure democratic control and maintain the autonomy of the worker cooperative.
Education, training and information
Cooperatives provide education and training to members, those who represent, manage, or work in them, so that they contribute effectively to the development of cooperatives. Cooperatives inform the general public, particularly youth and opinion leaders, about the nature and benefits of cooperativism.
Cooperation between cooperatives
Cooperatives serve their members more effectively and strengthen the cooperative movement by working together through local, regional, national and international structures.
Commitment to the community
The cooperative works for the sustainable development of its community through policies accepted by its members.
Other Kairos principles are:
- Gender equalityThe company has a cross-cutting nature with the rest of the principles.
