Caridad, Beatriz and Ángel, residents who share one of the two apartments of the Mi Casa project managed by Kairós in ACTUR, received this Monday, December 2, the visit of the Minister of Welfare and Social Services, Carmen Susín, and the manager of the Aragonese Institute of Social Services, Ángel Val. Several media came to know the experience and share the breakfast with which they received the authorities who announced important news: the continuity of the project Mi Casa with an annual investment by the Government of Aragon of 1.5 million.

Aragon will thus be the first community to decide to continue with the Mi Casa project. "It is about supporting the lives of these people with support needs in a home environment and with a long-term project," explained Regional Minister Carmen Susín.

A project with European funds that will continue with the support of the Government of Aragon.

Mi casa: una vida en comunidad' is being a successful pilot project at state level financed until December 2024 with European funds. Kairós manages two of the eight apartments included in this project in Aragón, with the participation of Fundación Cedes, ATADI Teruel, Valentia Huesca and Plena Inclusión.

For Gregorio Centro, manager of Kairós, the idea is that "people with intellectual disabilities and significant support needs should live in as normal an environment as possible." As the hosts of the councilor's visit confirmed, "Caridad, Beatriz, and Ángel have a day like any of us. They have their obligations and tasks. The program is proving to be a great success and for them it is like becoming independent," he said.

This innovative residential model was launched in 2018 with European funding and is based on the coexistence of several people with disabilities and support needs in the apartments. And to ensure the individualized support required by the residents of these shared apartments, which have personalized assistance, there is a staff of about 40 direct care professionals. They are occupational therapists, social workers, psychologists...

In the last edition of the Fourth Pillar Awards, the Mi Casa project was one of the projects awarded for the transformative capacity it has demonstrated, being an example of the before and after processes of personal autonomy in people with disabilities.
