21 young people from the leisure program have enjoyed an innovative underwater activity that they have welcomed "with great enthusiasm for it to be repeated".

A total of 21 participants of the Kambalache Free Time Center (CTL) of Kairós have lived an unforgettable experience thanks to the Aragonese Club of Underwater Activities CADAS and Alfredo González, promoter of this activity. This initiative has allowed the participants to enjoy an innovative activity, which has encouraged their autonomy and has provided them with new learning in a safe and supportive environment.

CTL Kambalache is an inclusive leisure space promoted by Kairós, which promotes the social participation of young people and adults with functional diversity. Through recreational, cultural and sports programs, and activities proposed by the users themselves, Kambalache promotes autonomy and personal development in an inclusive environment.

On this occasion, Kairos wants to publicly thank the initiative promoted by the CADAS Club, through Alfredo Gonzalez, collaborator of the entity. Ana Martínez, responsible for the leisure program emphasizes that "we have enjoyed a lot and we are looking forward to repeat it, and above all, it has been very well organized with the total involvement of volunteers and divers of the club that have made possible that each session is developed with total security and in a great atmosphere".

Emotions, laughter and a great discovery

For his part, Alfredo González assures that "the best thing is the enthusiasm and interest shown by the participants, who did not hesitate to ask all their questions and once in the water and guided by the professional support, they gradually discovered the wonders of diving and the sensations of breathing underwater with the help of an autonomous diving equipment". The experience, he adds, "provided plenty of excitement, laughter and the occasional waterfall..." .... At the end, no one wanted to get out of the water and the main question was when we could do it again".

And this is confirmed by the impressions shared by several of the protagonists who participated in this diving baptism, such as Eugenio Garayoa, who enthusiastically comments that "I found it very interesting and very nice to do this activity; I would like to do it again and I encourage people to do it because it is worth it". Pilar Ibañez also affirms that "I would repeat again because I liked it very much; the monitors were very nice, they explained things very well and were very attentive; I hope that people will be encouraged to do it with or without disabilities, because it is very nice".

The diving sessions have been developed in two parts: a first theoretical phase, where the participants have learned about the equipment, underwater communication gestures and safety rules; and a second practical phase, in the swimming pool of the Zaragoza Fire Department, where they have been able to experience the sensation of breathing with diving equipment and to manage in an aquatic environment under the supervision of professionals.

Each participant was accompanied by three divers, thus ensuring a safe and trusting environment for them to overcome the challenge of this novel activity. The last session will take place today, Friday, February 28th, putting the finishing touch to an initiative that has been highly stimulating for the boys and girls of Kambalache, and also for the professional team and volunteers of Kairós.

After this successful experience, in which the official presentation of diplomas of this diving baptism included, Kairós has no doubt that it will repeat this activity as soon as there is an opportunity.

With initiatives like this one, which show that everyone can immerse themselves in new challenges, Kairós continues its commitment to inclusion and equal opportunities through experiences that enhance personal development and autonomy.

"We work for, by, with people" is the motto of this social initiative cooperative that has been building a network of exclusive projects dedicated to children, youth and family, social and labor programs, housing and insertion itineraries for more than two decades. And in the specific area of disability and dependence, Kairós has a Day Center and Occupational Center, Adult Classroom, Kentrikes Special Employment Center, Integration Project of Special Education School Spaces (PIEE) and Autonomy Flats, in addition to the Kambalache Leisure Center.
