At the 7th edition of the Cuarto Pilar Awards, organized by the Aragonese Institute of Social Services (IASS), Kairós was honored for the project "MI CASA: Una vida en comunidad" (MY HOME: A life in community), together with the entities leading this innovative initiative in Aragon. This award recognizes the best projects that contribute to improving quality of life and social well-being in Aragon.
The "MI CASA" project is being developed in Aragon by Kairós, Fundación CEDES, Valentia Huesca, ATADI, and Plena Inclusión, and seeks to create new inclusive models of community living for people with intellectual disabilities and significant support needs. Launched in 2022 as part of a European effort involving 32 organizations nationwide, this project has stood out for its innovative approach and social commitment.
With this recognition, the Government of Aragon reinforces its commitment to integrate and expand inclusive care services in its portfolio, thus promoting the sustainability and development of these pioneering support models.
Kairós celebrates the award and especially the support for its continuity by the Government of Aragon. It also congratulates the professionals, coordinators, families and people with intellectual disabilities who have participated in this pioneering experience and have been instrumental in the success of the project.
Promoted by the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumption and Agenda 2030, through the Next Generation funds of the European Union, Kairós manages 2 apartments in Zaragoza in which 6 people live with a personalized support system that favors their autonomy and social participation.
The project has confirmed the improvement in the quality of life of these people, which involves their participation in personal decisions such as home decoration and knowledge of the environment. Families have also valued very positively that their loved ones with intellectual or developmental disabilities live in a more inclusive environment focused on their needs.
For Kairos, the Fourth Pillar Award is an important way to continue advancing this model in the face of institutionalization.
